Weston Mercury & Somerset Herald, April 20th 1973

More than 700 people packed St. Andrew’s parish church at Congresbury for a memorial service for the victims of the Swiss air dis- aster. Extra chairs were brought into the aisles, many stood in the porch, and others heard the service relayed in the refectory or on the vicarage lawn.

The inter-denominational service last night was conducted by Preb. Alex Cran, recently retired Vicar of Congresbury, and prayers were said by Methodist Minister, the Rev. John Ashplant, and lay preacher Capt. Hugh Gairdner.

The Bishop of Bath and Wells, the Rt. Rev. Edward Henderson, was at the door of the church to comfort relatives and friends of the dead as they left. Mr. Jerry Wiggin, M.P. for Weston-super-Mare, and representatives of local authorities in the area attended.
